Your Consumer rights and the NDIS

NSW Fair Trading are conducting a presentation on; 'Your Consumer Rights and the NDIS' on Thursday September 15 at South Coast Private Hospital. 

This presentation will help consumers understand their rights under the Australian Consumer Law, particularly when selecting disability related goods or services through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).  It makes no difference whether consumers pay for the goods themselves, as an NDIS participant, or through a disability support system – their consumer rights still apply.

We want consumers to understand they have the right to:

  • Take their time and ask for what they want
  • Ask for a better price
  • Say no if they do not want the goods or services
  • Be treated fairly
  • Be given all the important, correct information and not be misled by the business

Consumers have automatic guarantees that provide that:

  • Goods are of acceptable quality
  • Goods will match the description or any sample/demonstration model
  • Services will be provided with due care and skill and within a reasonable time frame
  • Goods and services will be fit for any purpose made known to the seller

The presentation will cover how people can be ‘smart shoppers’, what to look out for in contracts or agreements, and what to do if something goes wrong – including the option of lodging a complaint with NSW Fair Trading.  We will also include information on how people can help protect themselves from scams.
